Sprint Karting Series
Sprint Karting Series
The Vodafone Dmax Championship is the ultimate challenge for any aspiring racing driver, offering the highest level of performance in an Arrive&Drive format anywhere in the UK. The latest developments in kart racing technology have been utilised to bring you the ultimate arrive and drive experience.
Background
Dmax is an Arrive&Drive racing series. Budgets are fixed and there are no hidden extras to worry about. With Dmax, there are no transportation, storage or preparation fees, no damage costs and no engine rebuilds to pay for. This creates a level playing field for all the drivers and allows you to concentrate solely on your racing. Unlike a lot of MSA racing, it doesn’t matter how much money you have, it’s your ability that counts.
Even if you’ve done some other kart racing, being successful in the Dmax Sprint Championship will take some exceptional skill.
You will need to become familiar with the Dmax karts handling characteristics to be able to drive on the limit, on cold tyres, and in heavy traffic. It is unlikely you will drive the same kart more than once in a day, so you need to be able to detect the slight differences in each kart.
You will also need an intimate knowledge of the track. There are many different lines around the circuit; lines for attacking, defending or for outright speed. To climb to the top of the podium, you will need to know all these lines and work them all to your advantage. Daytona staff will always be at hand to offer advice and help, and we offer testing, coaching and tuition to help you find that extra edge.
There is a lot to learn for the first time sprinter however this shouldn’t put you off. Plenty of help is always on offer for new drivers and if you are serious about taking your skills to the limit against another 60 drivers (per class) then this is the series for you.
Sprint Karting Series Race Day Format
The Day starts with registration and sign on. Crash helmets, race suits and gloves are provided for those who don't have their own gear. Then follows the mandatory Drivers Safety Briefing and then it’s time to race.
Each driver will complete 4 laps practice enabling them to familiarise themselves with the circuit and the kart, before competing in 3 heats of between 6-8 laps. Drivers' grid positions are rotated giving a combination of front, middle and back starting positions against different drivers in most heats. Points awarded in the heats are added together to determine the drivers’ grid position in the finals.
After the heats are completed, the drivers that have scored the most points will automatically qualify for the 'A' Final. The remaining drivers will race in a 'B' Final from which the top 4 drivers will progress to the back of the grid of the 'A' Final. On completion the 'A' Final, trophies are awarded to the top 3 drivers in each weight class.
The Weight Classes
There are three weight classes in the Vodafone Dmax 2012 Championships; Lightweight, Intermediate and Heavyweight, meaning drivers race on equal terms.
- The Lightweight Class has a minimum weight of 70kg (kitted up).
- The Intermediate Class has a minimum weight of 82.5kg (kitted up).
- The Heavyweight Class has a minimum weight of 95kg (kitted up).
Drivers may carry as much ballast as required to meet the minimum weight for Lightweight entry, whilst Intermediate and Heavyweight drivers may only carry a maximum of 7.5kgs.
Race Reports / Results service
