Daytona Max Winter Series Sprint Lightweight Rd 3

17th January 2009 – Daytona Max Winter Series Sprint Lightweights Rd 3

After the Endurance teams kindly dried the track out, it was the turn of the sprint drivers to challenge for the championship.

The points table was extraordinarily close going into the final round and the racing was just as tight. Some stand out performances from the drivers with superb racing all the way down the field.

After the some intensely fought heats, it was Pete Ellis who took pole position for the all important final. At the end of lap 1 it was Ellis from a tightly bunched pack behind and round turn 10 it was breathless stuff as 3 drivers ran side by side into turn 11. Across the line for the start of lap 2 it was James Pratt who took the advantage and tried to pull out a gap but Chris Hackworth was hot on his heels and soon took over 1st position. Chris slowly built up an advantage and James tried to shake off the fast starting Matthew Edmonson-Jones. Behind the leaders, Callum Souter had an excellent race, Antonio Carrozza didn’t quite have the pace to match the front runners and sadly Pete Ellis faded with an ill handling kart.

At the flag it was Chris Hackworth with a 3.5 second advantage over James Pratt and Matthew Edmonson-Jones.

The final positions are as follows:

1st – Christopher Hackworth
2nd – James Pratt
3rd – Matthew Edmonson-Jones
4th – Callum Souter
5th – Antonio Carrozza
6th – Pete Ellis
7th – Daniel Brown

A number of drivers were not eligible to score points and do not appear in the above results.
