Daytona Max Winter Endurance Series Rd2
6th December 2008 – Daytona Max Endurance Winter Series Rd 2
Winter was definitely in the air as the teams began to arrive for the 2nd round of the series. The air was crisp and the track looked picturesque under a light coating of frost but soon the sun came up and bathed the tarmac, melting away the icy sheen and leaving it damp and very greasy. Sadly, even though the sun was out all day, it didn’t send enough energy to raise the temperature above tepid at any time.
The 2 hour race was a testing affair with many drivers complaining that their fingers and toes may fall off at any time due to frost bite. It may have been a balmy 2 degrees, but the wind chill factor at 75 mph had to be close to absolute zero. Lots of hot coffee and latex gloves were the order of the day although not necessarily at the same time.
Despite a number of warnings and a black flag for illegal carburettor tampering, the Honda F1 team went one better than last month and took the top step of the podium with consistent and fast lap times throughout the race. Taking 2nd spot, Seriously Sideways had a superb race after a mediocre qualifying performance. Rounding out the podium were Days of Thunder with a significant improvement over their previous rounds result.
Congratulations to the winners, but also to everyone who took part, we hope all the teams will have thawed out by the third and final round of the winter series in January.
The final finishing positions are as follows:
1st – Honda F1
2nd – Seriously Sideways
3rd – Days of Thunder
4th – Gonzales
5th- Team Backdraft
6th – Team EW Racing
7th – Team UK Platforms
A number of teams were not eligible to score points and do not appear in the above results.
